Background of the Study
Rural healthcare access in Nigeria remains a pressing issue, with rural communities like Dukku Local Government Area (LGA) in Gombe State facing unique challenges in obtaining adequate healthcare services. Geopolitical factors such as political decisions, regional resource distribution, and conflicts significantly affect healthcare delivery in these regions (Okeke & Mohammed, 2024). Dukku, characterized by its rural geography and proximity to regions facing security challenges, struggles with limited access to healthcare due to insufficient infrastructure, inadequate funding, and political neglect. This study explores the extent to which these geopolitical factors impact healthcare access in Dukku LGA, aiming to identify solutions to improve rural healthcare services in the region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to improve healthcare access in Nigeria, rural areas like Dukku continue to face significant barriers, including limited healthcare infrastructure, inadequate government funding, and poor healthcare delivery systems. These challenges are exacerbated by geopolitical factors such as regional resource allocation and political decisions that prioritize urban centers over rural areas. This study investigates how these geopolitical factors affect healthcare access in Dukku and suggests possible solutions for improving the situation.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of geopolitical influences on rural healthcare access in Dukku LGA.
To examine the relationship between political decisions and healthcare delivery in rural areas.
To propose recommendations for improving healthcare access in Dukku LGA through better geopolitical strategies.
1.4 Research Questions
How do geopolitical factors influence healthcare access in Dukku LGA?
What role do political and regional dynamics play in the healthcare delivery system in Dukku?
How can healthcare access in Dukku be improved by addressing the geopolitical factors at play?
1.5 Research Hypothesis
Geopolitical influences significantly reduce healthcare access in Dukku LGA.
Political decisions and regional resource allocations play a critical role in shaping healthcare availability in Dukku.
Addressing geopolitical issues will improve healthcare access and delivery in Dukku LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the understanding of the factors that limit healthcare access in rural areas, focusing on Dukku LGA. By exploring how geopolitical factors affect rural healthcare delivery, the study will provide valuable recommendations for policymakers to address these challenges and improve the healthcare situation in underserved regions (Okeke & Mohammed, 2024).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on rural healthcare access in Dukku LGA, Gombe State, over the past five years. Limitations include difficulty accessing data from local health authorities due to security issues and political sensitivities surrounding rural health delivery.
